The road was named in honor of Dadabhai Naoroji, The Grand Old Man of India. He was an educator, cotton trader, and an early Indian political and social leader. He was also a Liberal Party member of parliament (MP) in the United Kingdom House of Commons. He was the first Indian in British MP.
The street starts from the Crawford Market, linking Victoria Terminus, leads to the Flora Fountain at the southern end of the road.
